Misdirection Film
Spring 2023
Kevin's Wine
Midterm - Kevin's Wine
I think it is always cool to do something that we were once really good at - this time for the midterm I did a short film with misdirection. I used to be a content creator and make films or videos every week. Although not done it for a while this time the experience was still great. I really would exaggerate my story with wine this time - since it is one of the most misdirecting stuff for me. Overall, it was a really good experience. Adding all together it was about a week. At first, I managed to write a prompt/script not that cliche and I would like to enhance the dramatic moment while revealing the truth. After four versions, the final script is done. Then I sketched out the storyboard for a day. Filmed all the scenes for a day and edited them for a day. Finally, I put a lot of effort into the music and sfx inside the film.
I got a lot of precious feedback from the class. Most of them are really positive. I like when several people applauded for the final scene since I do think it was a really great act to pull on the curtain and reveal the vase. I also made an audio transition here. I really like the comment "for an already know misdirection film, the end was still surprising". I was also relieved when I saw feedback like "great composition", "nice cinematography", "very professional filmmaking". However, Carla provided one important piece of feedback that I definitely could do better: when I close the door after taking the present, it seems like I am slamming the door. Maybe I could add Shaw saying bye, see you, or something similar to tell the audience the truth here. Since it was a silent movie, misunderstandings could be easily created.
